Indonesia | U.S. | Europe | Argentina – 2024 is a consequential election year with half of humanity across 70+ countries and jurisdictions affected. Many Fellows are working on election integrity and related topics. In Indonesia, Septiaji Nugroho is a key partner of the national election committee focused on countering disinformation ahead of the Feb. 14 election. In the U.S., TikTok and Seth Flaxman ’s Democracy Works announced a new partnership yesterday to provide 150M U.S.-based TikTok users with reliable voting information via prompts on relevant election content searches in the lead-up to the November presidential election. In Europe, we’re partnering with Alberto Alemanno to strengthen participatory democracy . Also, following Argentina’s election last November, Laura Zommer introduced a new tool to fact-check (real-time) presidential statements on a variety of topics.

Global | U.S. | Spain – This week in The Atlantic (here ), Albert Fox Cahn cautions that chatbots and AI assistants may begin to influence human-to-human interactions in unforeseen ways, potentially training in habits of rudeness, apathy, disrespect. Take-away: Let’s be mindful of the moment and strengthen civil bonds and empathy as we integrate interactive non-human tools more. Miguel Luengo in Spain makes a similar point here .
