NetSuite Shortcuts
"I've been doing it all wrong."
"I didn't know that I had to field IDs properly. Thank you for telling me about that."
That's one of my client's feedback when I shared with him about this best practice.
In case you're wondering, I shared some tips on how to name your field IDs so that you can avoid experiencing a possible data loss.
This time, let's talk about a way to increase your productivity as a NetSuite user.
Ever felt that having to go through several navigational paths was a little too much?
Remember a time when you were looking for a specific page but forgot where to find it?
How about when you were trying to look for a report that you wanted to run again today?
As you already know, NetSuite has TONS of menu options.
Where is it again? Lists > Search > Saved Searches.. *scroll* *scroll*
How should I go to that report again?
How do I approve a journal entry?
Just like in your browsers, you can bookmark these pages as well.
In NetSuite, it's called a shortcut.
The shortcut is that "star" button beside the home page that you always ignore, but can be very useful.
Here's a quick demo of how it works!
Now, here's a more advanced tip:
Instead of having a single shortcut, you can put them into a group.
That's through the "Navigation Portlet" solution.
In Navigation Portlet, you can create Shortcut groups according to a role and put some icons to add some style.
To install Navigation Portlet, follow these steps as an Administrator:
1. Navigate to Customization > SuiteBundler > Search & Install Bundles
2. Use the following details to look for the "Navigation Portlet" SuiteApp.
- Bundle Name: Navigation Portlet
- Bundle ID: 186103
3. Click Navigation Portlet to display its Bundle Details page.
4. Click Install.

Whew!
