?? Meta's AI Chatbot - BlenderBot 3: An AI Chatbot That Improves Through Conversatio
Meta has released a new AI research project called BlenderBot 3, a chatbot that can search the internet to talk about nearly any topic.
?? New Privacy Features on WhatsApp
Whatsapp are introducing three new features on WhatsApp to give users more control with added layers of protection.
LEAVE GROUPS SILENTLY
We love our group chats but some are not forever. Whatsapp are making it possible to exit a group privately without making it a big deal to everyone. Now, instead of notifying the full group when you are leaving, only the admins will be notified. This feature will start to roll out to all users this month.

CHOOSE WHO CAN SEE WHEN YOU’RE ONLINE
Seeing when friends or family are online helps us feel connected to one another, but we’ve all had times when we wanted to check our WhatsApp privately. For the moments you want to keep your online presence private, Whatsapp are introducing the ability to select who can and can’t see when you’re online. This will start rolling out to all users this month.
SCREENSHOT BLOCKING FOR VIEW ONCE MESSAGES
View Once is already an incredibly popular way to share photos or media that don’t need to have a permanent digital record. Now Whatsapp are enabling screenshot blocking for View Once messages for an added layer of protection. They are testing this feature now and are excited to roll it out to users soon.
?? Instagram is about to get photos all wrong (again)
Instagram's has a new plan to introduce 9:16 aspect ratio photos as an option in your feed.
Instagram CEO Adam Moserri revealed the new photo format plan during a recent Ask Me Anything Session (as spotted by The Verge (opens in new tab)). Mosseri explained that currently, as you are by no doubt painfully aware, you can have vertical videos in your feed (it often seems like we have nothing but these) "but you cannot have tall photos on Instagram. So, we thought maybe we should make sure that we treat both equally.”?
?? Elon Musk changes plans, sells $6.9 billion in Tesla shares with Twitter trial looming
With so much of the world’s richest man’s wealth tied up in shares of his electric car company, Tesla is a part of the deal Elon doesn’t want to do anymore for more reasons than just a few subpoenas. Six SEC filings revealed Elon Musk sold more Tesla shares over the last few days, which is surprising given Musk’s tweet saying, “No further TSLA sales planned after today,” after he sold off $8.4 billion worth in April.
Tesla investor Sawyer Merritt tweeted a count of Musk’s activity between August 5th and August 9th, showing he sold 7,924,107 shares worth about $6.9 billion. Just before 11PM ET, Elon responded on Twitter, citing the looming trial against Twitter as an explanation for the new plan.
?? LinkedIn Lets You Add Clickable Links To Photo Posts
LinkedIn is rolling out a new feature that allows users to add external links to photos shared in posts.
This gives you another way to drive traffic to your website from your business’s LinkedIn page or your personal profile.
Geri Silver, Creator Manager at LinkedIn, shared an example of the new link sticker.
?? B2B Businesses Embrace LinkedIn Influencer Marketing
Companies are discovering that experts in their fields can help them sell to other enterprises, like the consumer brand stars of TikTok.
?? TikTok’s latest test feature aims to improve the app’s search capabilities
TikTok is testing a new feature that enhances the popular short-form video app’s search functions. The new feature highlights keywords in comments and links to search results for the term. TikTok’s search function already allows users to discover content and trends, but the new feature would take the app’s search capabilities even further. The test feature also shows that TikTok is interested in competing with more than just its social media competitors, as it’s now looking to cut into Google’s core products as well.
It appears that the feature is currently available to a small group of users who are part of a limited test. When we reached out for comment about the test, a spokesperson for TikTok said the company didn’t have anything to share at the moment.
Marketers Test YouTube Shorts, One More Rival to TikTok
Marketers are increasingly experimenting with reaching consumers using YouTube Shorts, one of the few rivals to TikTok’s short-video sharing platform.
Shorts is YouTube’s answer to Bytedance Ltd.’s TikTok, presented like TikTok as a feed of short-form, vertically oriented videos. The videos can last up to 60 seconds and creators can add hashtags as well as music or audio clips to the videos. The platform debuted in India in 2020 and rolled out to U.S. audiences last year.
Analysts have pointed to TikTok’s growing hold on consumers as a direct threat to YouTube, which is a key piece of the online advertising business at Alphabet Inc.’s Google.
