The Netflix of Big Data & Data Science

Here is a guest post by Data Scientist and KDnuggets Editor Matthew Mayo.
Are you a KDnuggets reader? If not, let me introduce you to the premier data science informational website.
We're actually an awful lot like Netflix (legal disclaimer: we are nothing like Netflix). At least, that's what people having been saying lately -- I'm sure you've heard the chatter. Here are the ways we are hearing others making the connection between these two powerhouses of industry.
Netflix has original in-house programming, just as KDnuggets has its own in-house articles.
Netflix has award winning original series like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards (a personal favorite). KDnuggets has the 7 Steps and Key Terms, Explained series (among others), as well as numerous in-house one-off tutorials and opinion pieces covering a wide variety of machine learning, data science, Big Data and AI topics, such as 10 Free Must-Read Books for Machine Learning and Data Science and Machine Learning overtaking Big Data? KDnuggets also conducts surveys, including the industry-leading annual Analytics, Data Science, Machine Learning Software Poll.
Netflix has original programming and ideas submitted to, and subsequently produced exclusively for, Netflix, just as KDnuggets has original submitted content.
KDnuggets receives submissions from theoreticians and practitioners from academia and industry on a daily basis, the highest quality of which are selected for publication. A blurred line between the previous and following categories, some recent examples of this category include 6 Interesting Things You Can Do with Python on Facebook Data and Do We Need Balanced Sampling?
Netflix finds quality content from elsewhere and runs it as guest programming in order to increase reach, just as KDnuggets does with republished guest posts.
Netflix syndicates quality content originally found elsewhere, which has allowed so very many British shows to make their way to North America for mass consumption, as but one example of this. KDnuggets also runs quality tutorials, overviews, and opinion pieces from other blogs and sites around the web, in order to increase their exposure. Recent examples of this include the popular Top 15 Python Libraries for Data Science in 2017 and The 10 Algorithms Machine Learning Engineers Need to Know.
Netflix enters into partnerships with other production companies for content which runs simultaneously or close to it on their platform and others, just as KDnuggets does with our content providers and other technical posts as well.
We have numerous partnerships with independent bloggers, academics, and players of industry, many of which encourage republication of their material on KDnuggets nearly simultaneous to their original runs, and often for ongoing series of posts, such as Taposh Roy's Medical Image Analysis with Deep Learning and numerous articles by Carlos Perez of Intuition Machine. We also have other nuggets of information for those in the industry, such as the recent 3 Key Trends Shaping the 2017 Data Science Hiring Market.
Another interesting and important connection: The Netflix Prize (2007) was inspired by the KDD Cup, the first Data Mining competition, which was started by KDnuggets and KDD founder Gregory Piatetsky in 1997 at KDD Conference for Data Mining.
So, maybe we aren't exactly like Netflix, but KDnuggets has numerous avenues from which it identifies content to share with our readers. If you aren't yet familiar, you should check us out. It won't even cost you the $9.99 per month that Netflix charges :)
