Netcare and Dr. Esihle Nomlomo Inc: Pioneering Enterprise Development in Healthcare
One standout enterprise development story is the collaboration between Netcare Diagnostics and Dr. Esihle Nomlomo Inc. Supporting a Black female-owned pathology service provider, this partnership has achieved significant milestones. The initial deployment of 122 blood gas analyzers across Netcare's intensive care and high care units has been successfully completed. Furthermore, an additional 70 point-of-care devices have been commissioned across ten emergency departments. This service expansion has also reached ten Medicross facilities, with plans for further expansion to additional sites in the fiscal year 2024.
Dr. Esihle Nomlomo Inc is connected to and backed by central pathology laboratories in Gauteng, along with three regional laboratories in KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, and the Western Cape, catering to patients in Netcare facilities. Moreover, it seamlessly integrates into the Netcare system, streamlining the process of obtaining results, treatment, and intervention, thus optimizing patient care.
Some time ago, I wrote about NetCare's CareON and their journey of digital transformation. This collaboration with Dr. Esihle Nomlomo Inc fit into that strategy and now, they are starting to see the rewards of this digitalization effort, hitting all the marks successfully. This partnership marks a significant transformation, likely representing one of the first large-scale deployments of point-of-care diagnostic technology. Point-of-care diagnostics (POC diagnostics) involve medical testing conducted near the patient, typically at the bedside, in clinics, or other outpatient settings. These tests offer rapid results, often within minutes, facilitating immediate clinical decisions. POC diagnostics are crucial for enhancing healthcare delivery by providing timely access to diagnostic information, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes. Despite expectations that POC technology would seamlessly integrate laboratories into wards, its adoption hasn't matched initial projections.
Point-of-care (POC) diagnostics provide rapid results, enhancing patient care by enabling timely treatment decisions. Testing in various settings reduces reliance on centralized laboratories and may lower healthcare costs. POC devices, which range from handheld to complex instruments, analyze bodily fluids for a range of conditions and are utilized in hospitals, clinics, ambulances, and home care, particularly in emergencies.
The collaboration between Netcare and Dr. Esihle Nomlomo Inc exemplifies genuine enterprise development. Upon the rollout of services across all Netcare facilities, including Netcare Medicross, this collaboration will become one of the largest diagnostic service providers in South Africa.

3 个月I would not recommend using this lab. Was taken to outpatients at Umhlanga hospital. This was not our lab preference- Bloods were taken to Esihle Lab(did not even know this lab existed). Received a ridiculously high bill- as per medical aid rates(this was for a cash account). Both Lancet and Ampath have cash rates for their patients. Tried explaining to the accounts person at Esihle Lab, with no joy whatsoever. My husband being a medical doctor himself has always used the services of Lancet and Ampath and has never had such difficulties. Definitely will never recommend this lab to anyone.
