NET WORK
Your NET WORK can be much more substantial than your work.
Consider the work of the carpenter, the painter, the electrician, the plumber, the roofer, the landscaper, the architect. Each has something uniquely valuable to add but the NET WORK is much more substantial than any of the components. And many of those people named, just doing their part, did it with a team and it was not just the work of one person. The NET WORK or combination of work emphasizes the gain from COLLABORATIVE effort. Done well it is multiplicative, not additive.
But VALUATION helps us apply a realistic perspective. The NET WORK in building a house is worth more than the sum of its parts. (How often do you see a house sold for parts?) But the value (the trade to compensate for the NET WORK) is dependent on how well it meets the needs of someone who wishes to use it. And finding that someone is another type of work, often reached through NETWORKING – now add the inspector, the realtor, the mortgage lender. The work is not done and the NET WORK with more people leads to greater value overall because the builders would have a hard time reaching the buyers. (When was the last time you saw a house for sale at the local farmer’s market?)
The next time you hear “Work smarter, not harder” think about NET WORK – COLLABORATIVE effort and NETWORKING for greater VALUATION.
