Nephron Sparing Surgery for a large (8cm) left lower pole renal tumor in a 38 year old patient

Date: 23/04/2022

We have done a complex surgery i.e.,partial nephrectomy succesfully for a large (8cm) left lower pole renal tumor in a 38 year old patient.Previously the standard of care was radical nephrectomy for all renal tumors. Now the standard of care is nephron sparing surgery wherever feasible. The idea of posting this case here is ,nephron sparing was more important for this young patient,as his overall GFR estimated by DTPA is only 60 m
for both kidneys put together.Challenges were, the tumor is very big and was extending upto sinus near hilum, and we were sceptical whether partial nephrectomy would be succesful in this case.We have done nephron sparing surgery
?
on him with the hope that it would prevent him landing in renal failure in future.
