NEP IMPLEMENTATION FOR GUJARAT PART – 2

NEP IMPLEMENTATION FOR GUJARAT PART – 2

Welcome to the Second and the Final Part of this 2 Part Blog Series on SOP by Gujarat Govt. (Education Dept.) for implementation of NEP 2020 across Gujarat.

In the first part, you gained an incredible amount of information on Curriculum, Framework, Online & Distance Learning Courses and Quality of Education. And now let’s have a super quick glance over the other 4 Major Points described in this SOP.

1. New Evaluation System:

The current examination system, relying solely on memory recall, has limitations, causing stress, manual workloads, and quality issues.

A new evaluation system is essential, offering horizontal assessment modes across all education forms (Regular, Online, ODL).

It focuses on holistic development, critical thinking, problem-solving, and ethical application of knowledge.

The UGC-guided evaluation comprises Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) for formative assessment, and Semester End Evaluation (SEE) for summative assessment, each carrying 50% of total marks, distributed between continuous classroom evaluation and mid-term evaluation.

2. Academic Bank of Credits (ABCs)

The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC), established by the University Grants Commission (UGC), promotes seamless student mobility and credit recognition.

Students register to accumulate, transfer, and redeem credits, paving the way for skill integration and flexible learning.

HEIs monitor, support, and report on ABC activities. The credit system operates through registered institutions, transferring credits between students and programs while ensuring transparency and verification through National Academic Depository (NAD) and UGC.

Digital Repository (Digital Locker)

Credits are redeemed for academic awards, facilitating credit-based education. ABC IDs are crucial for this process, allowing students to track their progress and credit history on the ABC portal.

3. Indian Knowledge System (IKS)

UGC suggests incorporating IKS-related curriculum into various subjects, allocating at least 5% of the mandated credits.

This includes foundational courses, experiential aspects like Yoga and Ayurveda, and 2-credit IKS courses as value-added subjects.

Teacher training and orientation programs for faculty members aim to promote an understanding of IKS and its role in interdisciplinary education.

4. Globalisation of Higher Education:

Mobility: Globalizing higher education enhances Global Academic and Research Practices, fostering global citizens by facilitating student, faculty, and scholar mobility.

?

Globalisation builds faculty capacity, equips students for global competition, shares best practices of teaching, learning and research and elevates institutions to global standards.

Conclusion

This blog puts highlights on the New Education reforms, Academic Bank of Credits, incorporating IKS and Internationalization of Higher Education.
