NEOMYCIN SULPHATE

Neomycin sulphate is an antibiotic that belongs to the aminoglycoside class. It is a water-soluble compound derived from Streptomyces fradiae and is primarily used to treat bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, leading to the death of bacteria.

Uses of Neomycin Sulphate

• Often combined with other antibiotics (e.g., bacitracin, polymyxin B) for broader antibacterial

• Helps reduce bacteria in the intestines before bowel surgery to prevent infections.
• Used to treat hepatic encephalopathy (a liver disease complication) by decreasing ammonia-producing bacteria in the gut.

3. Ophthalmic Use (Eye Drops & Ointments)

• Treats eye infections like conjunctivitis.

4. Veterinary Use

Used in animals to treat bacterial infections in the digestive tract, skin, and eyes.
