NEOM is one of Saudi Arabia's most ambitious projects - a futuristic sustainable city being built from the ground up along the Red Sea coast. The $500 billion mega-project encompasses multiple regions, including vertical city The Line, industrial hub Oxagon, luxury tourism destination Sindalah, mountain resort Trojena, and outdoor adventure destination Leyja.
?Led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, NEOM aims to be a blueprint for sustainable cities, pioneering green construction and running on renewable energy. Here are the latest updates:
The Line
?The Line will be a 170 km long car-free vertical city, with transportation by high-speed rail. Recently, has awarded contracts worth $1.5 billion to Italian company?Webuild and its joint-venture partner Shibh Al Jazira Contracting Co (SAJCO) to design and build 57 kilometers of a high-speed railway in NEOM, along the north Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia connecting The Line to Oxagon. This will enable rapid construction progress on the linear urban development designed for pedestrians and targeting zero carbon emissions.
Oxagon?
?Oxagon has broken ground on a massive 200,000 sqm Research & Innovation campus featuring advanced labs and prototyping facilities to nurture new technologies. A $10 billion joint venture was formed with DSV to provide logistics services as Oxagon is developed. The city will also house NEOM's pioneering green hydrogen plant.
Sindalah
?On this luxury island, NEOM inked deals with yachting and golf entities to create a high-end maritime and golfing destination. Sindalah will open in 2024, offering diving, yachting and other upscale activities sustainably. Dive Butler will enhance Sindalah's aquatic experiences with a PADI dive center and eco-friendly vessels.
Earlier in August, NEOM had appointed JLS Yachts as a “key partner superyacht agency” for Sindalah.?
In August, NEOM also inked a deal with IMG Golf Course Services to launch a nine-hole beachfront facility on Sindalah Island.

Trojena
?Developers are on track to complete the mountain resort Trojena by 2026. Recent progress includes excavating a 2.8 km freshwater lake at Trojena's heart, which will offer sustainable skiing and outdoor activities year-round using manmade snow technology.
Leyja
?Habitas was selected to build three sustainable boutique adventure hotels in Leyja opening in 2028, designed to blend into the landscape with minimal terrain impact. Leyja aims to attract thrill-seeking tourists with rock climbing, mountain biking, trekking and multi-day excursions.
Construction Progress
To enable rapid, efficient building, NEOM is utilizing modular construction techniques. SIBS is furnishing 1,300 apartment units across 22 structures, after an initial contract for over 2,100 units. Trojena's developers are on track to complete the mountain resort by 2026.
?NEOM is enforcing sustainability through advanced technologies like AI and robotics, recycling construction materials, and reducing embodied carbon. The project sets high environmental standards to demonstrate what is possible for future cities.
Though futuristic in vision, NEOM is quickly taking shape, with hundreds of contracts awarded. The project aims not only to create a thriving hub of innovation and tourism, but also to pioneer green development. NEOM seeks to be a blueprint for global urban sustainability.
