NEOM Now Edition 10: A greener NEOM ??

At NEOM, we love the color green.

In fact, we love it so much that we’ve put in place the NEOM regreening initiative. This conservation program is fully in line with our Kingdom’s very own Saudi Green Initiative, which you can read more on here.?

With a focus on protecting and sustaining vegetation cover, rehabilitating degraded sites and achieving sustainable management in pastures and national parks, our regreening initiative has many different goals we’re hoping to achieve.

A greener NEOM

One of our key conservation goals is to regreen NEOM with 100 million native trees, shrubs and grasses by 2030.

These ambitions are well underway, with 2 million trees and shrubs already planted and thriving.

Growing. Growing. Green? ??

The plant nursery is the very first of its kind in Saudi Arabia, and is growing local native species to help restore diverse and attractive ecosystems within NEOM.

By the end of 2024, we aim to produce 4 million plants, and we’re well on track to achieving this goal ??

Creating sustainable solutions for the world

Did you know NEOM is home to the world’s largest utility scale, commercially-based hydrogen facility?

Powered entirely by renewable energy, the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project will produce up to 600 tonnes per day of carbon-free hydrogen by the end of 2026.?

This will be in the form of green-ammonia as a cost-effective solution for the global transportation and industrial sectors.

Every drop counts ??

The entirety of NEOM’s plants are watered exclusively with recycled water from our wastewater treatment plant.?

We’re also trialling water harvesting - which is the collection and storage of rain.

Reintroducing the locals ??

We’re establishing world-class protected areas over at least 2 million hectares.

These areas will be safe havens for native species of wildlife including oryx, which - because of our rewilding efforts - are now walking the sands of NEOM for the first time in nearly 100 years.

We must all become stewards of tomorrow in order to repair our climate, save species and replenish natural resources.?

From the deep blue ocean and pristine beaches to awesome desert and epic mountains, NEOM has an ancient geography and topography unlike anywhere else.?

Reefs that sparkle with color, mesmerizing red sand dunes shifting with the wind and endless mountain valleys providing iconic views.?

The rich tapestry of NEOM will be protected, preserved and elevated. Forever.
