Neo-Epitopes: Bridging Genomics, Immune Response, and Cancer Research

Neo-Epitopes: Bridging Genomics, Immune Response, and Cancer Research

Neo-epitopes, also known as neoantigens, are small regions of proteins that are not found in normal cells but are generated due to genetic mutations in cancer cells. Because these neo-epitopes are unique to cancer cells, the immune system can recognize them as non-self (foreign) and mount an immune response against them. This makes them potential targets for cancer immunotherapy, which aims to stimulate the immune system to attack cancer cells.

Neo-epitopes hold promising future to improve cancer immunotherapy and vaccines.

Since we believe that neo-epitopes offer a promising strategy to improve cancer immunotherapy and in designing better vaccines, we reviewed different approaches to predict these neo-epitopes starting from cancer genomics to immunoinformatics.

Our publication is accepted in the journal of Briefings in Functional Genomics and is now available online. A huge thanks to friends and equal contribution co-authors Swapnil Mahajan and Manoharan Malini .
