NEM Dubrovnik 2024: Expansion and Strategic Partnerships in the region

Hello, this is Guilherme Jord?o , Content Distribution & Partnerships at Globo.

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend NEM Dubrovnik nik 2024 in person, held in Croatia. The event was an enriching and strategic experience for our local presence, exceeding all expectations.

The diversity of the participants was remarkable, bringing together players from the entire region: Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Serbia, among others. These are markets where we have recurring sales, making our presence crucial to strengthen ties and ensure sales stability in the region.

During the event, I had the chance to talk with important local players and explore future partnerships and possibilities for co-creating content. These interactions are essential for increasing our brand awareness in the region. Our vast portfolio and appealing productions garnered significant interest, highlighting numerous business opportunities and reinforcing our history of recurring sales to local channels and streamers.

Panels

In addition to networking and meetings, I also had the opportunity to attend some very interesting discussion panels. Two, in particular, caught my attention, and I would like to highlight them:

The Streaming War Isn’t Over

This panel featured the VP of Warner, who shared his career journey and market insights. Some key points were:

  • Global Presence: Warner is present in 65 markets worldwide.
  • Criteria for Expansion:
  • Market Vision: "I believe there is space for three VODs with a global scale, working with local markets. Our goal is to be among the top three once the streaming war is over."

The Art of Content Acquisition: Strategies for Staying Ahead

This panel brought together regional leaders responsible for content acquisition in TV/VODs. The main topics discussed were:

  • Regional Cooperation vs. Competition: Maintaining both is challenging due to the nature of small markets, where deals are made considering both pan-regional and local rights.
  • Cooperation Beyond Distribution: The head of distribution at Mediawan emphasized the importance of understanding each market's needs, investing in local productions, or finding other business alternatives.
  • Particularities of CEE Territories: They discussed the specifics of the markets, which demand customization for each territory, rather than being treated as a homogeneous block.

These discussions reinforce the need for a careful and strategic approach for the coming years and future editions of this event. NEM Dubrovnik 2024 was a unique opportunity for learning and networking, crucial for our strategy of expanding and strengthening the Globo brand in the international arena.

I thank everyone involved in this inspiring event and look forward to future collaborations and advancements that will emerge from these interactions.

Best regards,
