My colleagues and I were very happy to attend the CPD hosted by Neil recently.? The presentation was very thorough covering many aspects of the manufacture of the high-quality joinery items produced by yourselves. It was interesting to learn about the timber sizes available in order to avoid costly wastage, we were also keen to learn about the finishes supplied by Alchemist to complement the joinery. The history of NEJ Stevenson was very interesting to learn about, all in all it was a very informative CPD very well presented." -?Susan?de?Glanville Interior?Architectural?Design?Director?
TOP TIP - LEATHER
Is all leather the same?
Leather is made from the processed hides of animals. The main animal skins used are from cows, buffalos, goats and sheep.
These leathers all have different characteristics in terms of size, thickness, grain texture and fibre density and can be processed in different ways to create different products.
What is the difference between leather and suede?
Leather and suede are fundamentally the same material but treated differently.
Leather is finished on the grain side which is the hair side giving a generally smooth finish.
Suede is finished on the back side of the leather which is the flesh side giving a textured finish.
