In 2015 I left the world of contracting and decided to set up my own business as an Independent Damp & Timber surveyor covering the North East of England. There had never been a PCA registered Independent Damp and Timber surveyor in my region, and I had no real insight as to how successful my new business would be, but I was confident that a combination of hard work, applying the skills that I had learned during my previous 35 years in the Damp & Timber Industry as a surveyor and ensuring a first-class customer experience would provide me with the opportunity of building a successful business.

Year on year the business has grown to such a degree that we now find ourselves in a position where we are receiving survey enquiries from all corners of the UK and sadly, I am having to decline large volumes of work as it is just not possible to service every customer enquiry. I had thought of employing highly skilled specialist surveyors to work with me in expanding the business to offer UK coverage but after much deliberation, I have decided that the best way to expand my business is via a network of franchisees.

I believe that the assured way of guaranteeing the success of the business is for those involved to have ownership of their part of the business and with that in mind, I have established a new company trading under the name of Neil Marsden Associates Ltd.

The business aim is to build a network of highly skilled, fully qualified, professional 'Independent Damp & Timber Surveyors' able to offer national coverage throughout the UK. I believe that my business model provides the ideal opportunity for individuals to build and own their own successful Independent Damp and Timber Surveying business whilst having the reassurance of being part of a national organisation and the support that it provides.

Over the past 5 years, I have honed my business model to the point where it is extremely efficient, profitable and easily transferrable. A major benefit is that the business can be run from home meaning that the overheads are minimal, and it allows the franchisee to achieve the perfect work-life balance.

Potential franchisees will need to be highly skilled, have industry-recognised qualifications in their field of work and just as importantly they will exude professionalism.

Building on the proven success of the business I aim to deliver my Independent Damp and Timber Surveying service on a national scale, offering homeowners a consistent customer experience using proven systems and processes and taking the guesswork out of choosing a specialist Damp & Timber Surveyor.
