Negotiation deadlock? Break through with this 4-word question.

Ever got stuck in a negotiation?

There are negotiation consultants and communication experts much smarter than me that have sophisticated systems of resolving negotiation deadlocks.

But I've got something simple that almost always works.

It's a simple four word question.

It flips around the weird dynamic between you and the other party that has created the deadlock in the first place.

The reason why this is so effective is that you're taking the conversation to another level. You're addressing the underlying issue, rather than trying to persuade the other person to change.
