When we first think of a business, or business venture, we focus on the known variables. These are the rules of engagement if you will. Meaning, once we know the status quo. or the modus operandum; or baseline, we look for fundamental ways to make things better. That is our advantage in business.
Let's use Little Caesars Pizza as an example. I am from the universe, where they only cost $5.00 bucks. Dominoes built their franchise on deliveries. Jimmy Johns is based on an ok sandwich delivered very quickly. By comparison, Pappa Johns focused more, on its glazed dough; like garlic knotts/ bread but on a pizza crust; accentuated by better ingredients.
Those are all key factors of what is known. Little Cesars just gave you an amazing pizza, fast; and at a low price. Their business model is based on speed and volume, and expansion of sales. Add this for extra sauces...cheese, drinks, and krazy breads etc. Those are their profit makers. They open the sale by getting you to walk in the door for the pizza; at a great price. By the time you actually leave, you're saving about 30% compared to others. It is not packaged that way, but those are the facts. In the end we all win. We all get what we wanted, in the first place. I can cut in on the dance of my own profits, for the greater good, of winning the NBA finals, down the line. The final stretch/ outcome long-term, is worth more than me winning today.
I'd rather have 70% of a deal, or an agreement, than 100% of a nothing burger. Use these same principles when negotiating for your brand. Do not be afraid to make your best possible offer. And if that is not honored, as a sign of good faith; walk away immediately.
