No doubt that hospitality industry has been hit deep in 2020 by the pandemic. Many of us have been missing the benefits of enjoying family and friends meetings so that travelling.
And when it comes to consider impact in travel trends, there are indeed, changes. We will keep on looking for experiences and hotels and resorts will invest more in touch-free technology and innovation. But, above all,
users will demand safety and new health standards more than ever,
showing an impact in prices and RevPar. At this point the World Health Organization (WHO), along with international hospitality bodies including The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) and Malaysian Association of Hotels so that Caribbean hotels have introduced new industry health and safety protocols to assure guests that hotels are ‘clean and safe.’
From my personal experience, Menorca island, in Spain, will be one hot destination when it comes to EcoTravel. I can highlight its beautiful beaches, nature and outstanding resorts. Alongwith Holbox island in Mayan Riviera those are two of my favourite eco-destinations worldwide. In the Caribbean region, Hotel chains as Bahia Principe, Palladium or Melia are taking huge efforts to control health risks and ensuring great new experiences.
New travel trends will include, from regenerative travels to immunity-boosting breaks and even treehouses and jungle canopies. As examples, we can check Nirjhara and Treeful resorts, both are sustainable resorts shortly to open in jungle canopies amid southwestern Bali and Japanese island Okinawa respectively.
Treful, ecoresort in Okinawa
Highly remarcable aslo the Xigera Safari Okavango in Bostwana.
From a daily routine point of view, sunny islands from Barbados to Bermuda are offering residency programmes or visas of up to a year, while you can also take your pick from Mauritius (which has introduced a one-year premium visa scheme) and Thailand (which is promoting ‘linger longer’ travel with the recent extension of its 30-day tourist visa to 60 days). In Europe, Georgia, Germany, Croatia and Estonia are all currently, or about to, make longer-term stays easier for freelance or remote workers.
Global travel restrictions, temporary lockdowns and safe-distancing demands led millions of us to better appreciate being outside. This is also spilling into travel: according to recent survey by holiday-rental aggregator HomeToGo nearly all searches now concern trips to rural areas. Following this line, National Parks are also growing in visits.
Immunity-boosting retreats are all the rage. Health tourism will also grow. Defence-fortifying programmes have been unveiled at south-eastern Spain’s SHA Wellness Clinic and two German medi-spas: Buchinger Wilhelmi, beside Lake Constance, and Villa Stéphanie in the Black Forest, featuring treatments such as ozone therapy and micronutrient infusions.
Regenerative’ trips are the ones on which holidaymakers leave a place richer than they found it. We can highlight the timber-clad Hotel Green SOlution House in Denmark.
