The Need to Understand Well-being

Well-being is an outspoken element in our everyday lives now. However, how often do we talk about it when we talk about it? Physical, Financial, Mental and Emotional well-being are all driving factors in our personality development.

Meanwhile, this article will walk you through the importance of workplace well-being. Although, there will be a foundational conversation to understand well-being. More discussion will arrive in the later articles.

As the world is leaning towards technology, we must remember that being human is our pride and emotions are our obligations, which should be penned at the top of our priorities.

Today's uncertain times breed anxiety, worry and stress. All human beings & workplaces despite what they have become and come through need to work on their well-being.

I have worked in cultures where people feel afraid to raise their hands and ask a question. I have worked in cultures where team members would be enjoying their time and when their manager arrived, they all felt afraid and insecure. I have worked in cultures where asking for leave felt like a personal favour.
I have also worked in a culture where the manager's presence felt like home. I have also worked in cultures where making a mistake was a learning opportunity. You felt safe & secure and were brave enough to express vulnerability.

What's the difference here? Progressive management & leadership.

Coronavirus remains a fresh example of a challenging time when keeping sanity was a hardcore life chore. Everyone struggled to keep calm and hope. Those were short-term impacts but nobody may have imagined Covid-19's long-term impact.

Harvard Business Review's non-profit organization, Mind Share Partners in collaboration with SAP and Qualtrics conducted an illuminating study. The study revealed that 42% of respondents' mental health has declined since the outbreak began.

Prior to Covid, progressive companies started working on well-being in general. I call them progressive companies because they identified what ensures companies' success in the long term. Meaning they focused on revisiting the culture & environment and understood that a good culture is at the heart of all employees today.

A great culture where employees feel engaged, involved and valued is the incentive reality of a sustainable organization. Also leading to well-being friendly habitat.

These are all parameters to promote well-being and it is time organizations understand well-being.

Problems, confusion and uncertainty wobble when we encounter well-being. But how one can structure well-being has many ways but it trickles down to leaders' and managers' roles. How a leader builds his team and mentor groups to take care of those working under their supervision.

However, that statement sounds like a futuristic goal. So employees need to improve their self-awareness. Like for example, self-aware people take care of their well-being first and encourage others to follow this trajectory. For them, it is a constant struggle.

Corporate cultures must play a fatherly role in ensuring well-being a serious discussion. Individuals' stress arises when they avoid looking to better their well-being. Later on, it multiplies the impact on personal life, relationships and among peers. So when your significant abode, which is a workplace, either way, or not harming your well-being, you need to take it seriously.

Workplaces must demonstrate a working plan for promoting a culture which invites employees in and not out.
