Need Suggestions from my Contacts, Please
Thank you for reading this post, I will keep it brief.
I will be teaching a graduate course in Operations Research (OR) this fall and I'm looking for suggestions regarding the application of OR to "the space industry". Does anyone have or know of examples of actual or recommended uses of OR for space mission development, logistics, analysis, or operations?
I have only a few papers and really could use more. Papers, textbooks, monographs, personal experience that you're willing to share with me, or other contacts that you believe might offer assistance, ... all would be helpful.
I'm interested in a very broad range of applications of OR for any space-activity so please feel free to suggest any resource. Applications of modeling to support analysis, trade studies, or optimization of any part of the space- or ground-segment of a space mission are applicable as are simpler examples of using basic OR tools.
If you have any suggestions or questions, please leave me a reply to this post. Or leave an email address where I might contact you for more information.
Thank you all very much,

8 年Dave, one of our engineers is at JPL and she used to do ops on the rovers. Also, we are on the GSMO2 Goddard proposal with Honeywell. Let me know if you need a lead into that group. And of course there is Kelly!

8 年Dave, I like the overhead collection MOLP problem. It works especially well for the Space Based Radar concept that balances imagery, mapping, moving target and open ocean collection requirements.

8 年Any problem can have an application for space: Lunar Mining is similar t the Bank Teller problem. I will send a copy of the Lunar Mining Optimization problem from my SPSM5000 Course, change some elements to make it unique e.g., MARs Regolith Mining for Rocket Fuel Production, Oxygen Production, Materials Processing.

8 年You might contact some of the folks at National Space Society, many of whom work for LM, Boeing, etc. or have in the past. Bruce Pittman, Ron Jones, and many others. I'm not connected to the industry all that well so I'm myself not a particularly good resource! :) But this might be interesting: https://thespaceplan.com/. If you've been around long enough you probably remember The Integrated Space Plan. It's back!
