The Need For Speed

The Need For Speed

As most guys get older, they get slower.

Even the guys who go to the gym...

Slow, Slow, Slow

If you look around at what most guys are doing at the gym, you can quickly assess that most workouts are generally made up of SLOW movements.

Especially true when it involves weight.

But if we know that getting old is associated with being slow, why are we training slow?

I think there are two reasons

  1. Being told that moving fast is dangerous and could create injuries.
  2. Not knowing it was important.

You see, if you want to avoid "normal" aging, it's important to keep your body functioning at a high level.

And if we look at WHO the highest functioning humans are (at least physically)...

We can all agree that they are the Athletes of the world.

And the most valuable currency for most athletes is POWER!

Power is a combination of strength and speed.

It's these high-horsepower individuals who are the ones who dominate many of the fields of sport.

And as a guy over 40, even if you don't play a specific sport, you are still participating in this "Sport of life".

The Sport of LIFE!!!!

And I believe the "Sport of life" is one of the hardest sports of all.

Which is a great reason to keep your body in tip-top physical condition.

Here are 3 ways you can start improving your power...

SPRINT - Any activity. Do short 10-30 second intervals of ALL OUT efforts

JUMP - Vertically and horizontally

LEARN the Olympic lifts - The Clean and Jerk and the Snatch are the BEST, most efficient ways to improve horsepower. Start with a wooden stick and progress from there.

When you develop all three of those areas, you can turn back the clock and start looking, feeling, and performing like a 20 year old again :-).

You'll feel more agile, quicker on your feet, and have no issue when faced with moving heavy stuff.

You'll also become more bulletproof which means you won't need to worry about the silly injuries many "older" guys deal with.

As a 48-year-old guy myself, I work very hard to maintain my power.

And when I train power, I feel like a kid :-)
