Need a mentor? These local businesswomen can help

I can proudly say I was at the first Sacramento edition of Mentoring Monday in 2014.
More than 200 women gathered at the former Sleep Train Arena in Natomas, not knowing what to expect from the morning. We repeatedly described it as "speed mentoring," but nobody was entirely sure what that meant.
The morning wasn't perfect — the seats were too close together and guests had a hard time hearing. But even with those challenges, I thought we'd laid the groundwork for a program that could be really special.
Now, as we prepare for the 11th annual Mentoring Monday event, I've heard stories proving I was right. Participating mentors have kept in touch with their mentees for weeks, even years, after the event. For many women across the Sacramento area, those same mentors have been key to securing professional introductions and job opportunities.
Mentoring Monday is an annual event where guests can receive career advice from some of the Sacramento area's top businesswomen.
This year's local event will be held Feb. 26 at Sierra College in Rocklin, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Participating mentees will be able to have several one-on-one conversations with the mentors. Often, those nine-minute conversations can result in a business card exchange with long-term impacts.
Intrigued? Register now — the deadline is Feb. 19. Registration information is available online.
Here's what else you need to know about the local business scene this week.

“I would imagine we’ll have groundbreaking later this year,” Kaiser executive James (Jay) L. Robinson III, PsyD, MBA said, at the Sacramento Business Journal’s annual Healthcare Leadership Forum Thursday morning.
Robinson, who is senior vice president and manager of Kaiser’s Sacramento and South Sacramento service area, said that the Oakland-based integrated health care system had put down a $100 million investment in pushing the project forward.
