Need guidance? I'm offering pro bono consulting + coaching in a time of need.

I'm on day 8 of social distancing and self-quarantine in my home. Like many others, I’ve felt disoriented, overwhelmed, and generally out of sorts. As I’ve navigated this new reality, I’ve also been wracking my brain to identify ways I can truly help others through this as well.

I write. I blog. I share my thoughts across social media. But, it doesn’t feel like enough.

People are losing jobs, being faced with severe economic uncertainty, and having to make difficult people decisions in the face of a crisis without a defined end. Surely, there is more I can offer outside of sharing a Facebook post, or a block of text on LinkedIn or Instagram.

In brainstorming (with myself, and of course, virtually), I realized that I could help by opening up my typical paid services to a broader audience, at no cost.

The field of Industrial-Organizational Psychology has so much to offer the world, and I'd hate for that impact to be diluted due to financial constraints alone.

Beyond that, part of why I truly love what I do is that it enables me to support others. I became a psychologist to help people, and leadership coaching is a service-oriented profession focused on helping others achieve success in their positions and careers. I get back as much as I put in in the way of my own satisfaction.

So, here’s the deal: For the next month (maybe longer), I will be setting aside 4-5 hours per week for pro bono consulting and coaching.

I have an advanced degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology, and nearly 8 years of experience in the leadership development space.

If you’re a business leader or owner, Human Resources or Talent Management professional, or people leader managing a team through the pressure and uncertainty in our world, I am here to help.

I can provide a listening ear or advise you through decisions around:

  • How to lead your team during a crisis
  • Managing a newly remote group
  • Connecting emotionally with others through uncertainty
  • Leading inclusively, with empathy, and with courage, when it feels impossible
  • Leading through intense change and disruption
  • Understanding and staying true to your values through change
  • Shifting from a short-term, day-to-day focus to thinking long-term
  • Making decisions in unprecedented ambiguity
  • Integrating work and family; maintaining some semblance of work-life "balance"
  • Focusing on what can be and can’t be controlled in order to stay focused
Please note that, in my work, I do not tell people what to do. So, if you’re looking for a black-and-white answer or something to give you direct advice, this service is likely not for you.

Rather, I am a coach and adviser: I listen, ask open-ended questions, spur thought, provide resources and tools, and only occasionally, offer a tip or piece of advice.

My work is all done confidentially — meaning that what you say with me stays with me unless we agree otherwise — and as such, I also create a safe space for vulnerability, expressing fear when you have to lead with calmness, and working through issues that you may otherwise have no support around. It can be lonely as a business owner or leader during these times, and coaches are often leveraged to help.

Here’s how this will work:

If you’re interested, use the below template to email me at [email protected] and we’ll get things going. Note that I am on Central Standard Time (CST), and I am offering 1-hour slots of time. Also, I’m doing it this way to, again, keep things confidential — you reach out to me personally, 1:1.

I hope this helps in some way, and I look forward to connecting with some of you.

If you're reading and wouldn't personally benefit but think others might, feel free to share.

Stephanie...You are a great model for all of us to continue giving and giving back both during this challenging period but in the future...Thanks and hope it inspires more of us to do the same in our own way (we just volunteered to take on another guide dog puppy for the blind for our 18 month journey to help develop a future leader!)
