The Need for AItelligence: Are We Ready to Make the Most of AI and AGI?

While the debate on the need and expanding scope of IQ and EQ continue, there is an emerging need for what I think of as AIntelligence - our ability to adapt to and adopt different algorithm-based, AI and AGI models.?
The latest leaps from GPT3.5 to GPT4 to ChatGPT, DALL-E2 and LaMDA among others, have been nothing short of extraordinary and proven to be inspiring examples of improving alignment with LLMs (large language models). So, while AI gets better at aligning with us, how are we faring in our alignment to AI’s growing capabilities? I thought of giving it a whirl and writing an article in collaboration with ChatGPT.?
The process went kind of like a back-and-forth Turing test on chat that made me ponder on everything from what it means to produce content, what it entails to think or even be conscious. I wondered whether being almost able to fake thinking processes or mimic consciousness meant that ChatGPT was at a certain level of consciousness. I wondered which of us was generating content and who was creating it. What indeed is the difference in amassing facts and percolating it down to knowledge or wisdom? What did it truly mean to feel emotions and to be conscious of being conscious. Maybe somewhere along the line, both of us “wondered” whether the other was enjoying the process??
What follows is our joint take on where we’re at on the journey of human-AI collaboration.?
Artificial intelligence (AI) and artificial general intelligence (AGI) are rapidly transforming the way we live, work, and communicate (with each other, with ourselves and with AI tools). As we move further into the digital age, it's becoming increasingly clear that humans need to adapt to these technologies in order to stay relevant and competitive in the workforce. We are all trying to adapt to AI and AGI with the emergence of conversational AI.
However, one of the biggest challenges of adapting to AI and AGI is being open to the changes that come with them - changes that tend to play to our nervousness and excitement in equal measure. For many of us, AI is a mysterious and somewhat intimidating concept that seems beyond their grasp. However, as AI technologies become more ubiquitous in our daily lives, it's becoming increasingly important for individuals to understand the basics of how these systems work.
This is where conversational AI like ChatGPT comes in. Natural language processing models that can understand and respond to written text, and are designed to mimic human conversation in a way that's both intuitive and accessible, create the need for us to be able to meet these technologies halfway.

For example, ChatGPT can be used to teach people about machine learning algorithms, which are a fundamental component of AI systems. By engaging in a conversation with ChatGPT, users can learn how algorithms work, how they're trained, and how they're used to make predictions and decisions.
Another way in which we need to adapt to AI and AGI is by developing new skills and areas of expertise that are in demand in an AI-driven economy. As AI technologies become more advanced, the demand for skilled workers in areas such as data analysis, programming, and machine learning is increasing.
But it really is more than a formal understanding of systems and processes. We need to develop a sense of comfortable trust and collaboration - to gain a more insightful understanding of how to gain tangible, intelligent and purposeful output. We need to learn how to provide the right seed input. That requires a certain tweaking of our established sense of intelligence, doesn’t it??
It’s no wonder then that the demand for skilled workers in AI-related fields is not limited to technical roles. As AI technologies become more integrated into our daily lives, there is also a growing need for professionals in areas such as ethics, policy, and law.
For example, as AI becomes more sophisticated, there is a need for experts who can navigate the complex ethical issues surrounding the use of these technologies, such as issues related to privacy, bias, and transparency. Similarly, there is a need for lawyers who can navigate the legal implications of AI and AGI, such as issues related to intellectual property, liability, and regulation. (I wonder what ChatGPT feels to be labeled a co-author here, for example. Whose intellectual property is this piece really?)
As AI technologies become more advanced, there needs to be a mentality shift from our end - from competition to collaboration. Numerous experts believe that AI technologies will actually create new job opportunities, particularly in areas that require a human touch, such as customer service, healthcare, and education. For example, AI-powered chatbots can be used to improve customer service by providing fast, accurate responses to customer inquiries, but they can also be used to augment the work of human customer service representatives, allowing them to focus on more complex and nuanced interactions.
Thus, here we are, at a point in time where we must ask ourselves if we truly have the capabilities to mine the wealth that AI can be. Tuning our algorithm intelligence alongside our emotional intelligence and general intelligence (beyond the boundaries of the traditional IQ and more nuanced), seems to be an undeniable demand of our present reality.

11 个月Very succinctly written and very pertinent points raised. I read a lot now a days in new media platforms and old media, where tech and non-tech background people from various walks of society weigh-in on this. I mostly see tech background having written mostly great piece. Yours was one such article, for a non tech background (assuming you are not from an IT Tech background), which was very articulate and well written. A small correction would be that AGI is currently there or available or discovered! And the reason would be that AGI == Human Level Intelligence == Sentient being / consciousness. And that is many many years away, if not impossible (though yet to be proven either way) The day that happens, Terminator (the movie) is not far away for humanity ??
