Need to Address the Facts

We need to stop mucking around and get down to business, we have been suppressed since the days of colonisation and it is now time that we stand-up as one nation with one voice, we had this opportunity when we had an organisation called ASTIC but we lost our opportunity when John Howard played political mongrel and shutters down, while now it’s time that we become the political mongrel and take this government on under its own laws and we do have enough evidence to throw into the courts and in particular the world court under war crime actions, no matter what they say or try to tell us these criminal acts took place and was classed as an action of war well if the rest of the world can take other nations to this extent why can’t we do it with this government,

we only must see what has been unfolding in the past couple of months with members of the federal parliament, we need to remember that they wrote the Constitution and they wrote the rules and regulations but, yet they could not abide by their own laws and regulations but yet they expect us to live by their rules, our what has become a political floorshow now goes into the 2nd chapter where members can be expelled by the High Court but then can rerun in in the coming elections for the same seat and be again put back in the Parliament. And then the Prime Minister makes a mockery of the court system by allowing that very same minister to sit in the house during parliamentary discussions, so taking the issues of the war crimes let’s look at all the parliamentary decisions that have been made in regard to aboriginal culture and welfare rights.

Anything that happens within the states is of importance to the Aboriginal communities, and in most cases it’s not the elders that you call to these meetings, we do have some very strong and dedicated young leaders but at times they do lose their way when it comes to addressing true cultural issues. And it is these leaders that we need to support and train by the passing on of the knowledge of our cultural past stop traditionally Aboriginal elders gathered for general conversation will address all the issues of great importance to the communities and our people we don’t have two sit down and be like a bureaucratic information Centre all we need to do is to be ourselves and hold the respect of the conversation and its answers as we would add a traditional gathering commonly known as a Corroboree

? The aim of this event is to bring our elders together in order to have a conversation on the current issues that confront our communities across the state, and to look at the possibility of establishing a solid eldest State Council, it about time that we take the lead role in addressing issues that have not only set dysfunctional activities in our communities but has led to the undermining of our cultural and spiritual rights. We need to understand that as custodians of the land we have a responsibility to protect and preserve both our culture and spiritual beliefs unfortunately with today’s agenda in the political arena aboriginal people are becoming the forgotten people and it’s now time that we stand as one and address these issues that have been affecting our communities, and a state Elders Council would be one of the answers and possibly a true solution to these issues. This event has been set out over three days the first day as explained in the flyers will be a social gathering day a day where these people will be able to catch up with old friends and Family , and also gain information on the various service providers that are on offer, I can honestly say that I have found in a number of communities stretching west from the Newcastle that region people are unaware of the existence of these services and this puts us at a great disadvantage with other community groups. In the final outcome of this conference I would like to see other states follow this example in addressing the aboriginal issues that we all face.
