Need 4 Reprodutive Health 4 adults - an example from the reality in Kenya.
A story of the need of reproductive health and services and information to not only girls but women in Kenya.
A story from the reality.
She works as a maid and is 62 years old .
As I am waiting for my friend to come, it was a surprise visit, I offer her the beer I was bringing to him.
And that is the question that triggers her to tell me her life story in five minutes:
How she used to go to the bar already in afternoon and just pour alcohol down her throat,
How her husband beat her and abused her cause she never got pregnant,
that after 15 years he married a new wife and kicked her out,
how her mother and father and family didn't welcome her back.
She was alone.
She ends her story saying; "And imagine, his next wife didn't give birth either".
I realize that she thinks it is her and the other woman's fault.
I whisper: "He must have been the one unable to produce children".
As I am uttering the words slowly, I realize she doesnt know she could have had another life.
My friend arrive.
I give her a hug and cry inside as I am giving him the beer.
I don't know if she heard my last sentence.
Today she is sober.

3 年In a society that's largely patriarchal, it's common for the woman to always (unnecessarily) bear the brunt. Education is the answer but what's the question? I get to meet such women and their pain is untold. Thank you Camilla Wirseen for your decication to tell HER story

3 年Thank you for sharing this story: I guess we all need to constantly thinking that these stories still happen. Many would say education could be a start point to fight all this, but also in so called educated countries, such gaps are still there. The question I have for myself is: what can I do about it?
