Neck, Back, and Shoulder Pain Common Among Students

A recent study investigated the relationship between neck/shoulder pain or low back pain and the daily behavioral habits of nearly 4,000 high school students in China. The researchers found that 20% of the students suffered from neck/shoulder pain and 15% lived with low back pain, with females having a slightly higher risk for either condition. Further analysis showed that high self-perceived stress, sedentary behaviors, and poor sleeping habits each increase the risk for either neck/shoulder pain or low back pain.
