The necessity for ‘Rounded’ Leadership Development Programmes
Many organisations are ‘intensifying’ their leadership development programmes to identify a ‘hive’ of leadership potential. Those who are deemed to be of a higher potential, will be?‘fast tracked’ into executive leadership roles.
While investment in leadership and other people development programmes is applauded, the watch out is that such leaders are not fully rounded to have a positive and progressive impact on their respective organisations.
Before being ‘fast tracked’ into such executive leadership roles, attention must be given to ensure leaders are given the opportunity to attain a working knowledge of the business and its value chain, hence attain an authentic understanding of the people, process and product challenges at the ‘Gemba’.
Such balanced leadership development programmes will produce fully rounded and more effective?leaders, who are truly capable to take organisations from ‘good to great’.
