"The Necessity of Knowing the Truth"
Excerpt from "The RePurposed Man"
“Give us some men who know the truth!” – Steve Lawson
Let me be direct—there’s no such thing as a repurposed man who doesn’t know the truth. If you don’t have the truth of God’s Word guiding you, you’re just playing a part. It’s like trying to build a house without a blueprint, relying on what looks good in the moment. That kind of approach doesn’t last. If you want to be a man who’s truly repurposed by God, you’ve got to know the truth!
Steve Lawson said it best: we need men who know the truth and live by it. Men who can lead their families, friends, and even themselves with conviction and integrity. Here’s the reality: floating along with whatever feels right or popular doesn’t work. If you belong to Christ, you need to know what He says—and His truth never changes.
Think about it—how can you live a repurposed life if you’re not anchored in the truth? Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17). Without that truth, we’re like a boat with no rudder. We’ll drift with the current, and sooner or later, we’ll crash. But a repurposed man has decided to stop drifting and start steering his life according to God’s course.
And here’s the thing—it’s not just about memorizing some Bible verses. It’s about living the truth. It’s about letting God’s Word shape who you are—how you think, how you treat people, and how you make decisions. This is what transforms us. It changes our goals, our dreams, and even our habits. But it all starts with knowing God’s truth.
Now, I’m not going to sugarcoat it—there’s a cost. Knowing and living the truth won’t make you popular. It’s not going to win you the approval of the world. But here’s what you need to understand: you’re not living for the world’s approval anymore. You’ve been repurposed. Your life has a new aim, a new direction, and it’s not based on what’s trendy or what others think. It’s grounded in the eternal truth of God’s Word.
A man who knows the truth is dangerous to the enemy. He’s unshakable. He can’t be swayed by lies. He stands firm when temptation and hardship come his way because his foundation is rock solid. This is the kind of man who changes things—not because he’s chasing after personal ambition, but because he’s living out God’s purpose for his life.
If you want to live a repurposed life, it’s time to get serious about knowing the truth. Dive into the Word. Make it part of your daily routine. Don’t just skim it—study it. Let it challenge you, convict you, and shape you into the man God is calling you to be.
Three Essential Steps for the Repurposed Man
Every repurposed man has to go through a kind of “boot camp” to shape his new identity in Christ. It’s not easy, but it’s necessary. Here are three steps every man needs to take:
1. Surrender to God's Authority

The first step to becoming a repurposed man is surrender. This isn’t a one-time thing; it’s a daily commitment to say, “Not my will, but Yours, Lord.” Surrendering means letting go of pride, selfish ambitions, and old habits. It’s about allowing God to reshape your priorities around His purpose. You’ve got to give up control and let God take the lead.
2. Commit to Knowing the Truth
You can’t live a repurposed life without knowing the truth of God’s Word. This step takes discipline and intentionality—reading, studying, and meditating on Scripture until it becomes the foundation of your life. You need the Bible to guide your decisions, shape your thinking, and fuel your transformation. Without it, you’re fighting a battle without any weapons.
3. Walk in Accountability
Repurposed men don’t go it alone. You need brothers who will keep you accountable, push you forward, and challenge you to stay true to your calling. Accountability requires humility and transparency—it’s about letting others into your life so they can help you stay on track. The Bible says, “Iron sharpens iron,” and we need each other to stay strong in this journey.
These three steps—surrender, knowing the truth, and accountability—are non-negotiable for every man who wants to live a repurposed life. They’ll test you, but they’ll also transform you into the man God has called you to be.
Discussion and Reflection Questions:
Prayer of Commitment:
Lord, I want to be a man who knows Your truth and lives by it. Help me to hunger for Your Word and seek Your wisdom in all areas of my life. Let Your truth shape me, change me, and guide me in every decision I make. Give me the courage to stand firm in Your truth, no matter what the world says. I commit my heart and my mind to You, and I ask You to renew me daily by the power of Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.
