NEC4 – What do you want?

NEC4 – What do you want?

Early August is a time for holidays for many people. Here at Driver Trett however, our minds turn to the Autumn seminar series. These events have been running for a number of years now and take place in approximately ten locations throughout the country, usually close to one of our offices. In a typical season, attendance across the country will be around 1,000 people and we have achieved consistent feedback of between 96% and 100% good to excellent on topic and presentations.

Picking a new and interesting topic is always a challenge, but the recent launch of NEC4 is so significant to the industry that the choice was made for us. The team preparing these events was selected at a recent board meeting, where everyone managed to find over 100% utilisation for the next few weeks, leaving the preparation to me, with the assistance of those that were on holiday or maternity leave at the time of the meeting, as they were kindly volunteered by their colleagues.

In reading through the contract, there are clearly some important changes to cover. Contracts can be a little dry as seminar matter and so I have concluded that there are three ways to present this topic:

  1. A comparison of the key changes clause by clause, with an example of how this might work in practice. This requires one experienced practitioner speaker.
  2. A scenario based on a major project, where Employer and Contractor offer different view of how four of the key changes should be presented. This will involve two or three presenters.
  3. A critical review of the key changes with two speakers presenting different views on what the effect might be of a given change.

Please comment on this article with your choice of 1, 2 or 3 as the presentation style. I also welcome comments on any of the key changes you would like to see featured.

Please note that these seminars are by private invitation only, however the limited places available can be applied for by clicking here.

Option 2 - seminars rarely grasp real time events so it would be great for some live issues to be put into perspective

2 but avoid a too large project or a mega-project and use a more typical (less newsworthy) project
