NDDC Stands With the United Nations In Today's Commemoration of #HumanRightsDay

Human Rights Day is held annually on 10th December to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turker, said: “It is absolutely clear that we need to regain the universality of human rights, the indivisibility of human rights, and we need to find a new energy that motivates young people around the world."

This year's theme is “Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for all."

NDDC was set up in direct response to the agitation of the long-suffering people of the Niger Delta region for the recognition of their fundamental rights.

Section Seven of the NDDC Establishment Act 2000, which provides for the functions and powers of the Commission, encapsulates salient principles that underpin this year’s Human Rights theme of “Dignity, freedom, and justice for all.”

In this video, the NDDC Director of Legal Services, Dr. Stephen Ighomuaye, reiterates the Commission's commitment to dignity, freedom, and justice.
