NCSAM - Security, still a shared responsibility.
Since 2004, the USA has led the way in championing October as being ‘National Cyber Security Awareness Month’ (NCSAM) with support from the Department of Homeland Security and the non-profit National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA.) This has in turn inspired similar campaigns such as the well-intentioned albeit more humbly recognised ENISA, European Cyber Security Month.
Starting out with what is hopefully by now regarded as quite primitive advice (such as encouraging people to update their desktop anti virus programs) from 2009 the NCSAM campaign has been built upon the overarching, simple but enduring premise that cyber security is 'Our Shared Responsibility.' It then explores different, more specific weekly themes each year. This year, we've had 'Make Your Home a Haven for Online Safety' and 'Millions of Rewarding Jobs: Educating for a Career in Cybersecurity' - for weeks one and two respectively. Now we're in week three and the theme is "It’s Everyone’s Job to Ensure Online Safety at Work."
Tripwire's always worth visiting State of Security promotes NCSAM each year by publishing its own series of articles exploring the weekly themes and related topics. I'm delighted as always to contribute my own comments to this one published today. Do please go and read 'NCSAM: It’s Everyone’s Job to Ensure Online Safety at Work' here.
