NC4K Works With Local High Schools and Universities to Host a Summer Internship

This summer, NC4K was proud to host a summer internship to benefit students from local high schools and universities. The summer internship program has been one that has been hosted for many years. Over the years, NC4K has been proud to work with numerous different students and schools to create new learning opportunities for these students. Many times, these students come back to volunteer their time at events such as the Gala, Fashion Show, and Reindeer Run. These interns also come into the office and help out with other needs that may arise.?

In 2023, NC4K was proud to host four interns from various schools. There were two interns from Columbus Academy High School: Datse T. and Andrew S. These interns worked primarily in the Operations sector with Operations Manager, Dana Norrod, and their big project that they put a lot of effort into was the annual Back to School Bash. In addition to these two interns, NC4K hosted an intern from Bowling Green State University and Ohio Dominican University . These two interns worked primarily in the marketing department. The intern from Bowling Green State University , Micheal B., worked on behind-the-scenes marketing while also still being a full-time student. At the time of his internship wrapping up, he also graduated from Bowling Green State University. The intern from Ohio Dominican University , Katelynn L., worked primarily in social media marketing. Towards the end of the internship, she was hired onto NC4K’s team as the Social Media and Marketing Specialist.

Upon completion of their internship, NC4K received information from some of the interns from Columbus Academy High School, Andrew S. and Datse T. Here’s what Drew had to say about his time with NC4K:

“Working at NC4K this summer has been an unforgettable experience. As a summer intern, I very much enjoyed putting time into something so meaningful even if it was just for this summer. What truly makes this organization so special is the endless kindness and grit that everyone puts into it. Even when you walk into the building, you can feel an almost comforting aura around you. The team’s amazing dedication to the kids in this program is truly something to appreciate. The people at NC4K care so much and make the program a super special thing to be a part of.

The work at NC4K is an interesting topic for a few reasons. First of all, it changes on a daily basis. Some days, I’ll be counting school supplies for the Back-to-School Bash, but the next day I’m there, I’ll be building IKEA shelves for the Justice store. Another reason is that you get to see all the hard work you’ve put in actually pay off. It’s quite a gratifying experience and it’s very encouraging while you’re organizing winter coats or setting up an online store. Overall, the time I spent was very rewarding and I would like to thank the NC4K team for allowing me to gain this amazing experience.”-Andrew S., NC4K Summer Intern

Here's what Datse T. had to say about her time with NC4K:

"During my internship at NC4K, I had the incredible opportunity?to immerse myself in the world of social impact and witness the impactful change that can be brought. From the moment I walked into the office?I was welcomed and met people who were committed to their line of work. Working with each of them was a delight.

Throughout my time at NC4K I was exposed to a wide range of responsibilities that allowed me to develop a diverse skill set. Whether it was working the warehouse, helping?organize supplies, or up front in the office?each task contributed to my growth. It was a space that I was able to grow in both personal and professional ways. The team contributed to this?by being inclusive even though we were simply student interns. There were constant brainstorming sessions, collaborations, and open discussions that allowed for new ideas to come about. Moreover, each idea was genuinely?valued by everyone.

What I value most about the internship was the sense of purpose it instilled in me. Witnessing the organization's impact on the lives of individuals?at the Back to School Bash served as a reminder of what our hard work was for. Being my first internship I couldn't have asked for a better experience, and I wouldn't trade it for anything." -Datse T., NC4K Summer Intern

NC4K is thankful to have been able to host these students this summer as interns and is so grateful for all of the work that they put into ensuring No Kid Fights Cancer Alone.
