What’s in the news??

The UK is leaving coal-powered electricity in the rear view as with the closing of its last plant at Ratcliffe-on-Soar in England. It might well become a zero-carbon technology and energy hub.?

All those methane emissions from farm slurry stores could be turned into a biogas saving farmers ￡400m a year to the British ‘dairy sector in saved fuel costs, or around ￡52,500 for an average-sized dairy farm’ according to a study by University of East Anglia (UEA) and the International Fugitive Emissions Abatement Association (IFEAA).?

Deadly weather events that happened this week include the floods in Bosnia, said to be the deadliest in years, and Hurricane Helen devastating the Southeast of the United States where the aftermath is continuing to wreak havoc in the six affected states. This, as another hurricane, Milton, is expected to hit Florida this week.?

75 years of increased environmental protection in China - here’s a positive piece highlighting some of China’s ecological and environmental protection achievements over the past seven decades.?

And do you know much about the EU’s Algae Biomass sector? Well nor did Fiona Alston before she interviewed Carlos Unamunzaga, President of the European Algae Biomass Association (EABA)?for Eurativ’s Advocacy Lab last week, and also reported on the EABA’s manifesto.?

The countdown is on to Impact Day - making sustainability irresistible in the Nordics and Baltics - the three-day event kicks off in Tallinn, Estonia on the 10th of October.
