NB-IoT in Europe: Deutsche Telekom and a number of operators reached a roaming agreement covering 18 countries

Deutsche Telekom said in a statement that as the number of IoT devices on the market continues to grow, this partnership can meet customers' needs for international coverage and services. It is expected to reach more NB-IoT roaming agreements with more operator partners in the coming months.

In addition to Swisscom's networks in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Telia's networks in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, and Vodafone's networks in Spain, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, Deutsche Telekom will also be in markets where it operates Of 9 (Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Greece, Poland, and Croatia) provide mobile IoT roaming services.

"Our customers need a sustainable roaming environment for Mobile IoT deployment to provide consistent services across countries." Rami Avidan, senior vice president of IoT at Deutsche Telekom, said, "This enables them to benefit from economies of scale when you continue to expand your business."

Roaming on standards-based LPWA networks is considered to be the key to driving the market because manufacturers will aim for seamless coverage when deploying mobile IoT devices across multiple markets.

With major operators AT & T, Orange, Swisscom, and Royal Dutch Telecom activating roaming on LTE-M (another standardized LPWA IoT technology) on their respective networks, the market was further promoted in June 2019 to Ensure better connectivity across Europe and North America.

Deutsche Telekom added that roaming is very important for many industries, such as asset tracking, smart metering or waste management industries, and solutions for these industries need to operate in multiple markets.
