NAWBO Stands Ready to Work with the Trump Administration

Washington, D.C. —The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and Chair of the NAWBO National Board, Dr. Janis Shinkawa, released the following statement as the Trump transition team gets ready to prepare for 2025.

"We look forward to working with the Trump Administration to continue to grow our nation’s economy. Thanks to everyone for engaging here. Two closing points I’ll make in this comments section, now four days out. Linda McMahon led Trump’s Small Business Administration from 2017 to 2019. One of the offices she oversaw was the Office of Women's Business Ownership. But in an interview with Forbes in February 2018 (screenshot and source linked below), she admitted “we haven’t done much with it.” This isn’t to say McMahon didn’t do anything to help WBOs and SBOs during her tenure - the Lender Match tool her office released in 2017 is good - but she had the backing of the federal gov and still didn't do a whole lot for women business owners specifically.?That history does not inspire confidence for SBA’s potential under a second Trump term. Secondly, I think it’s telling that the supporters of this recent post tend to talk about how Trump benefited them personally and their businesses. While others are talking about NAWBO’s role as a women-led organization and the negative effects that Trump’s policies will likely have on women business owners everywhere, those coming to defend NAWBO’s post are not acknowledging these things. Not to beleaguer the point, but that tells me everything I need to know.

Trump International Hotel & Tower New York & Trump is VERY MUCH for small businesses! He and all his organizations support many! (I just sold www.goldenopenings.com after founding/owning/operating it for 28 years, a few weeks ago) but his organizations bought all of their ribbon cutting, ground breaking and ceremonial supplies for all for their new hotels, buildings, golf courses, tennis courts, etc., all the time! Trump also had (his top purchasing controller call me)- and asked if I would fly out to look at & and replace all the antique stanchions and naughyde ropes at The White House . I also received a private tour and saw him off to his last debate & got a ?? ?? (Right when COVID was barely starting to break out, ?? and they had just finished the Rose Garden Event where nobody was wearing masks- Oct.31, 2019) ?? Yes…came home with Covid but #worthit #sba #womanownedbusiness

As a Nawbo member, I totally agree with Shari Rose's comment. And I can't help but add that I highly doubt President Trump will do much for small businesses. All Presidents have limited economic control. They can't unilaterally stop inflation or lower the price of eggs - not in a democratic capitalist country. The only business Trump has ever cared about was his own & he sometimes cheated to make it appear more profitable, something I am certain my fellow NAWBO sisters would not do as ethical business owners. The stock market being up on Wednesday was 100% about others' belief in Trump - which may be misplaced - combined with the relief that comes from there mere fact of a certain outcome. As for the programs of the SBA, it may be hard to run them efficiently if we really do wind up with a tinier civilian federal workforce - which is something that the President-elect has promised to do (changing the workforce so most jobs are political, not civil service).
