Nawal El Saadawi: Feminist firebrand who dared to write dangerously
It was a great honour to invite Nawal El Saadawi to Sweden for participating in the Conference about Honour Based Violence. What a lady, what a strong personality. The Middle East needs such heroes fighting for Gender Equality. Her memory will always be with me!!

3 年What a magnificent and bold storyteller she was! From the first sentence of her God Dies by the Nile (Och tiden st?r stilla vid Nilen) I was caught. Mesmerized. The rhythm of her language was impossible to escape, like a strong forceful wind it carried me right into that little village near the Nile, forgetting time and space. Slowly, almost carefully, she builds the setting, the plot and the characters so as to softly prepare the reader for what is to come, with more and more details, until uncovering the full picture of what the Indian rural life and its hierarchies do to women. And then, the surprising, yet inevitable, ending, what a blast! If I could only recommend one book, it would be this one!
