#NAW23: An Interview With...
Wilmington plc
Helping our customers to do the right business, in the right way...
For National Apprenticeship Week, we have spent time talking to colleagues across the Wilmington group who have personally undertaken an apprenticeship. We've really enjoyed hearing everyone's feedback on what the apprenticeship means to them personally.
Today, we share our interview with Myron Owusu, Marketing Executive for our Bond Solon Training business.
Thanks for your time Myron!
Q: Hi Myron! Please can you tell us about your role with the Wilmington group and your background with the business?
A: I had previously spent two years at college studying sport and exercise science, before starting university however I decided I wanted to explore other opportunities. In June 2022, I then joined Bond Solon Training as a marketing executive, which was advertised as an apprenticeship role. I hadn’t done marketing before, but it really interests me. I like the idea of stepping into an apprenticeship, where I could learn and earn; this was very appealing for me.
Q: Tell us about your apprenticeship journey so far:
A: I’m around six months into my apprenticeship and it’s been quite an interesting journey so far. I’m studying a Level 3 digital marketing degree, which runs over around 18-months and is conducted remotely.?I’m really enjoying learning the creative side behind it and the advantage is I get to see how marketing works within a corporate industry, as part of my work.?

Q: What do you believe are the main advantages of apprenticeships?
A: To learn while earning is a big plus. I am working five days however I am able to put time aside to study. I worked closely with my manager to come up with a solution that is best for both of us.?I dedicate one full day a week to the course, but I divide this between two half days: Wednesday morning and Friday afternoon, which fits around my schedule and my managers.
Q: What are you enjoying about the apprenticeship?
A: I like the fact that the course dovetails with what I’m doing at work, so I can put into practice everything I’m learning.?For example, I was in an exam the other day and the questions related back to something I’d been working on, at work. It all feeds into one another and I am really enjoying the course and the skills it’s giving me. I can see that it’s giving me great experience, plus with advantage of a credible qualification at the end of it that not only benefits me, but my employer.
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?
A: I would say to take your time when picking what you want to do in your career; there’s so much choice. I don’t regret trying University but this works far better for me; I love learning while I earn. I think there’s a big stigma for younger children, where they feel they have to make their career choice and stick with it, however that’s not the case. There are so many opportunities out there, and apprenticeships give you an amazing chance to enter so many varied careers and professions.?It's never too late to change your career path."
