Navy Reserve Affiliation Deployment Deferment Program

???? Attention Navy Veterans and Service Personnel! ????

Are you considering joining the Navy Reserve? If so, we have important news for you regarding deployment deferment!

NAVADMIN has announced the Military, providing crucial benefits for Navy Veterans (NAVET) and Other Service Veterans (OSVET) personnel, including those in the Individual Ready Reserve (Voluntary Training Unit and Active Status Pool).

Here's what you need to know:

1. One-Year Deferment:

  • All NAVET and OSVET personnel, upon affiliating with the Navy Reserve, qualify for a one-year deferment from involuntary mobilization. This deferment begins on the Selected Reserve affiliation date.

2. Two-Year Deferment for Recent Affiliates:

  • NAVET and OSVET personnel who affiliate within six months (183 days) of release from Active Duty are eligible for a two-year deferment from involuntary mobilization, starting from the Selected Reserve affiliation date.

Important Notes:

  • Members are entitled to only one mobilization deferment, which is associated with their initial Navy Reserve affiliation.
  • Deferments are applicable under the current operational tempo and extend to all Sailors affiliating through the NAVET or OSVET program, regardless of their previous deployment schedule, last duty station, Navy enlisted classification, or designator.
  • It's essential to note that direct Navy Reserve accessions, upon transitioning to Selected Reserve status after initial training periods, remain ineligible for deferment.

This program aims to provide peace of mind and stability for those transitioning into the Navy Reserve, allowing them to focus on their training, professional development, and personal lives without immediate concern about involuntary mobilization.
