Happy New Year to all !!!
Chaitra Navaratri or Vasantha Navaratri, is a 9 day annual festival devoted to Goddess Durga, whose nine forms are worshipped on nine days.
Today (22nd Mar 2023), the first day of this festival, belongs to Goddess Shailputri (daughter of ParvatRaj). The word "Shailputri" has been derived from two words, 'Shail' and Putri, meaning mountain (Parvat) and daughter, respectively. The Goddess is believed to have married Lord Shiva in the form of Parvati, and symbolises the Goddess of nature ! We worship Goddess Shailputri on this day and re-iterate our commitment towards Mother Nature & our planet i.e. inspires #sustainability .
The significance of this day amplifies in today’s world where each Organization is joining forces towards #greenit or Sustainable processes. CxOs are more conscious and are ready to invest a premium for products?more sustainable or socially responsible, and this has accelerated the #innovation in this area.
Today my friend Gaurav Aroraa talked about judging a Hackathon in one of the Colleges where students developed a novel mechanism to manage the garbage collected - segregate it automatically based on the type & then process it accordingly.
I came across this very interesting idea around Liquid Trees in a Linkedin post today as well. A team of scientists have developed an innovative tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality: The Liquid tree, which contains six hundred litres of water and works by using microalgae to bind carbon dioxide and produce pure oxygen through photosynthesis. This is not a replacement of trees, but complements in the fight for clean air. Similarly there is a lot of work happening across the world. ?
So what is your favorite innovation in the Green IT or Sustainability space? Please share with me in the Comments section.
?Let me end with the Prayer (Mantra) for the day.

The Goddess established as a symbol of Nature, I bow (Naman) multiple times to the Goddess !!
I pay my obeisance to Devi Shailaputri, who bestows with the wish fulfillment, The Goddess who has crescent moon on her forehead. She is mounted on the bullock. She is Yashasvi?!!

1 年Nice article Deepak Gupta and very interesting discussion below
Thanks for triggering the enlightening discussion, Deepak. It is nice to read the varied perspectives. I am myself a big fan of "Recycling" (blame it to the upbringing). With limited natural resources and ever-increasing demands, conservation of resources to reduce negative impact of the environment is a must. The government and Industry are now serious towards the cause. I see efficiencies from "Greener solutions" almost becoming like a mandatory target for Corporates in a few years (just like the contributions via CSR activities). I like one of our products "IBM Turbonomic" in this area. It uses intelligent automation to make an immediate impact on energy use by optimizing the resource allocation to applications. This increases utilization, reduce energy costs and carbon emissions, and achieve continuously efficient operations.

1 年Thanks Deepak Gupta for sharing views on #sustainability . No second thought that it's a most pressing issue for the planet. The energy sector plays a crucial role in shaping up sustainable future. The first thing which comes to my mind is a green hydrogen on this topic. The green hydrogen is something which is produced while using renewable energy source. It's emerging solution which has potential to reduce carbon footprint by decreasing the greenhouse gas emissions. In India, considering the economic feasibility, agriculture and related industries being one of the prime sources contributing to the GDP, government has recently launched GOBARdhan a janandolan yojna under swachh bharat programme. https://sbm.gov.in/gbdw20/ focusing on incubating ideas for waste to energy and waste to wealth. Infact in one of the recent hackathon organized by DSEU UNIVERSITY, i was amazed to see some ideas on #GreenIT in action realizing these sustainability goals of waste to wealth. #ICBLE2023 #agriculture #sustainability #GreenIT

1 年Happy Navratri to All!!! with Green IT , for IBM have a very significant means , Green computing, also called sustainable computing, aims to maximize energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact in the ways computer chips, systems and software are designed and used. IBM z16 is built to optimize sustainability in the modern data center, with improved energy efficiency, enhancement of manufacturing and material sourcing, improved packaging strategies, and material recycling at product end-of-life. Architectural features that improve energy efficiency include on-chip compression and encryption designed to sustain 90% utilization. Ref: https://www.ibm.com/products/z16 For me the sustainability revolves around three pillars economic viability, environmental protection and social equity. let's make a better green and sustainable place for the future.

1 年We have often heard people relating ancient scriptures and beliefs with modern science. Relating ‘Sustainability’ with the 1st day of Navratri has indeed taken it to the next level! When I think of sustainability, I think Mother Nature. The one thing destroying nature right in front of us is fossil fuel pollution, yet our necessities make us helpless. One of the best examples for use of alternate fuel are Electric cars - the most imoactful yet easy transition for people!
