Navitas Showcases Cutting-Edge Power Semiconductors for AI, EVs, and More at PCIM Europe 2024

Introduction to Navitas at PCIM Europe 2024

Navitas Semiconductor Corp, based in Torrance, CA, is set to make a significant impact at Power, Control, and Intelligent Motion (PCIM) Europe 2024, held in Nuremberg, Germany, from June 11-13. In booth #544, Navitas will demonstrate the capabilities of its gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon carbide (SiC) technologies, which cater to a wide range of fast-growing markets and applications, from 20W to 20MW.

Diverse Applications of GaN and SiC Technologies

These markets include fully electrified EV transportation, AI data centers, industrial compressors, drives, robotics, and renewable energy sourcing and storage. The highlighted technologies promise numerous benefits for end-users, such as increased portability, longer range, faster charging, and grid independence. Moreover, GaN and SiC technologies emphasize sustainability, aiming to reduce over 6 gigatons of CO2 annually by 2050.

Leadership’s Perspective on Innovation

Alessandro Squeri, Senior Director for European Sales, states, “Our complementary GaNFast and GeneSiC portfolios, combined with comprehensive, application-specific system design support, help accelerate customer time-to-market while delivering sustainable performance advantages. ‘Planet Navitas’ embodies the inspiring and practical applications of GaN and SiC, forming a $1.6 billion customer pipeline within a $22 billion annual market opportunity.”

New Technology Releases and Updates

Navitas will also unveil several technology updates and new releases at PCIM, including:

  • GaNSafe: Claimed to be the world’s most protected, reliable, and highest-performance GaN power.
  • Gen-4 GaNSense Half-Bridge ICs: The most integrated GaN devices to date.
  • Gen-3 Fast GeneSiC Power FETs: Designed for motor drive and energy-storage applications.

Technical Presentations at PCIM

In addition to showcasing their products, Navitas will participate in several peer-reviewed technical presentations:

  • June 11 (13:00-14:30, Hall 10.1): Senior Director of Strategic Marketing Tom Ribarich will present ‘Low-Cost High-Density 300W/20V AC-DC Converter Enabled by GaN Power ICs.’ This presentation will detail a 300W high-density AC-to-DC converter achieving over 96% peak efficiency and 270cc. The design features a 2-phase interleaved PFC input stage, an LLC DC-DC stage, and a synchronous rectification output stage, with GaN power ICs and off-the-shelf controllers operating at 300kHz, resulting in a power density of 1.1W/cc.
  • June 12 (15:30-17:00, Foyer): Senior Staff Applications Engineer Minli Jia will present ‘Evaluation of SiC Devices for Over 500kHz Application Based on Buck Circuit.’ This study involves analyzing three 1200V SiC devices from different manufacturers, designing a buck converter with an output power of 3.6kW and a switching frequency of 600kHz. The efficiency and heat of the SiC types were tested under identical conditions, revealing that SiC devices with fast turn-off characteristics and low thermal resistance are more suitable for high-frequency converter applications.

Conclusion

Navitas’ presence at PCIM Europe 2024 underscores its commitment to advancing power semiconductor technology and highlights its pivotal role in driving innovation in various high-growth sectors.
