Navigating Your Mental Health During the Holidays?

The holidays are full of tasty food, gratitude, and spending time with friends and family. While most of those things can have a positive influence on us, they can also come with negative emotions. The holidays may be hard for some and in this article, we’re going to discuss different ways to help combat those feelings.?

Set Boundaries for Yourself?

When spending time with friends and family, it is important to set boundaries for yourself. Let those around you know that you may need to step away and take a few minutes for yourself. You may even need to sit out of some normal holiday activities and that is okay. ?

Allow Yourself to Feel How You Need to Feel?

Holidays can bring about a variety of emotions. Some may be positive, some may be negative, but it is important to remember to allow yourself to feel how you need to feel. If you’re having a difficult time, remind yourself that it is okay to not be okay. ?

Request a Schedule of Events?

Some people find contentment in planning and may become stressed when there isn’t a schedule to follow around the holidays. Remind yourself that it is okay to request specific times for specific events (I.e. dinner at 5 pm, holiday lights at 7 pm, etc.)?

When you begin to feel overwhelmed with emotions around the holidays, remember to look back on these recommendations and remind yourself that you come first. Your feelings are always valid. You are allowed to set boundaries for yourself and request accommodations that will better suit your needs. ?
