Navigating the Web of Opportunities: A Guide to Effective Networking

Envision walking into a place that is aflutter with anticipation for forthcoming revelations and revelations. This spirit was captured in the Marketing Seminar series, a weekly gathering of subject matter experts who were more than just names on a PowerPoint slide; they were real mentors ready to impart their wisdom virtually. Every lesson was a gateway to a new experience, and my Professor, Wendy Greenwood, transformed an average semester into an engaging journey. As I think back on this amazing semester, I want to highlight the important lessons learned, the worthwhile relationships made, and the progress I've made in my networking to take advantage of the great chances in the field of digital marketing that lie ahead.

Be consistent

Embrace Change and never give up

The finest advice I ever heard from Danielle Humilde—a former entrepreneur who eventually went on to become a UX designer for a commercial insurance and risk consulting company—was to never give up. "It's okay to change your mind and keep changing it along the way," she said. I came to see that there is nothing wrong with us altering our thoughts and choices till they satisfy us. This was helpful advice, as discovering my life's purpose means taking many chances until I find the right one.

Adhere to Your Intent

Selecting a marketing niche amidst the multitude of options available in the digital marketing world may be challenging. I learned there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer from professional speakers like Cathy McKnight's thoughts. It involves being aware of my work style, hobbies, and strengths. It's acceptable to start from diverse backgrounds and change depending on what I love or what am good at, just with PMP Cathy McKnight, who handled jobs on both sides.

Always ask questions

?

Stay inquisitive and never stop learning.

The marketing industry is changing. Thanks to Sam Leung's insights, I've come to understand that, in addition to adopting new ideas and technologies, being relevant in marketing also requires being willing to try new things and learn from mistakes.

Building Long-Lasting Relationships

?

Networking is about building relationships with people.

As an introvert, networking seemed overwhelming. Insights from Melanie Evely shifted my perspective. Networking is not just about collecting contacts; it's about building meaningful relationships. It's a continuous process that can happen anywhere - from work and academic environments to online platforms.

Follow my passion

Follow my passion

My passion was ignited by the tale of teenage entrepreneur Lauren Galeana. It was more than simply picking a career; it was about figuring out what kind of life I wanted to lead. Every speaker offered a distinct viewpoint that altered my perception of potential job paths and emphasized the need for genuineness in my professional development.

Networking Journey

Building a network proved to be an essential component of my semester. I was able to connect with recruiters and industry experts by conversing with people on LinkedIn, which increased my understanding of potential career paths. Participating in events and activities arranged by the Student Association allowed me to make deep relationships and broaden my knowledge. Reaching a cooperative position calls for extensive networking. By connecting with recruiters on platforms like Indeed and LinkedIn, I was able to show my enthusiasm for the industry. I also followed the lecturers' recommendations on how to tailor my CV to the job I was applying for and how to make my profile stand out on these sites.

My adventure with networking went beyond the virtual world to include experiences in the actual world. By going to job fairs and networking events such as the GBC Career Fair and Ad Club's Student Day 2023 event, I was able to meet real people and broaden my network while also learning more about the business and meeting like-minded individuals who may become mentors.?

Conclusion:

In a hyper-connected world, effective networking is a skill that can propel my career to new heights. It's not just about transactions but about building meaningful, long-lasting relationships that contribute to my professional and personal growth.

My sincere appreciation goes out to the perceptive presenters in my Digital Media Marketing Seminar, whom I view as messengers from the cosmos who inspired me to embrace bravery and venture beyond my comfort zone. I would especially want to thank Professor Wendy Greenwood for her constant inspiration and guidance. I consider myself lucky to have selected GBC and this program for my post-secondary studies.
