Navigating the Virgo New Moon: Embracing Change and New Beginnings
The Virgo New Moon graces the sky on September 14, 2023. Astrologers will tell you this new moon is significant for spiritual and personal growth.
Against a backdrop of six major planets in retrograde motion, it feels like this is an invitation to reflect, revisit, and recalibrate our lives. This celestial configuration presents us with a unique opportunity to delve within ourselves, embrace the wisdom of the past, and prepare for the transformative changes ahead.
Every new moon is about what you want to let go of as you step into the void of possibilities and what you want to create going forward – your heart desires.
Along with the allure of the New Moon is the concept of "the void," a space that I think has infinite potential and unmanifested energy. In the void, all things are possible. It is a place of pure potentiality, where our thoughts and intentions can shape our reality.
Just as a gardener tends to the soil before planting seeds, we prepare ourselves in the stillness of the New Moon to sow the seeds of our desires. Now, who isn’t ready for a bit of seed sowing?
The void is a space of receptivity and openness, free from the constraints of past experiences and limitations. Imagine a cosmic womb where our dreams and heart desires are birthed, nurtured, and brought into being. If you choose to embrace jumping into the void during the New Moon, you can align yourself with the universal flow of creation.
I just ditched a novel idea that I loved but brought old traumas that needed healing, which was all good and massively messed with my creativity and desire to write a novel.
Last new moon, I stepped into the void and sat and waited and waited, and yeah, you guessed it, waited and then it came… Eureka, a new novel idea that I adore, was birthed. And right now, on this new moon, I am excited again.
So, let’s explore the energies of the Virgo New Moon and how they relate to our journey of self-discovery and personal growth.
The Virgo New Moon as a Catalyst for Change
All new moons are a catalyst for change and set the stage for the transformative shifts that lie ahead. While the retrograde planets may induce feelings of stagnation and inertia, you don’t have to buy into it, play music you enjoy and dance or air guitar it out… Or eat chocolate ice cream – do something to switch things around and make you feel gooooood.
The Virgo New Moon is your beacon of hope, illuminating a path towards release from the old and embracing the new.
Let’s do this thing!
But first, pause and savour where you are, tune into what is going on for you and be honest. You’ll gain insights before leaping ahead. By taking this time, you become better equipped to face the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Getting grounded is a good way to move into setting intentions and going after your new moon heart's desires.
Getting Grounded with Virgo Energy
I was once asked if I was a Virgo because I was so organised. Nope, all Sag here, but Virgo is prominent for me. In general terms, Virgos are practical and organised, with great attention to detail. So, these suggestions work with these qualities - give them a go.
Declutter Your Space: Virgo energy thrives in a clean and organised environment. Use this time to declutter your living space, which can have a calming and clarifying effect on your mind. I love decluttering – under the stairs cupboard, here I come.
Sort Out Your Diary: You may be going Yuk. I don’t do details; I go with the daily flow. Go on, give it a go, get yourself organised.

Set Realistic Goals: Break down your long-term goals into smaller, achievable steps. Chunking anything down makes it easier to do, and you can celebrate the small things more often. Virgo encourages a practical and incremental approach to personal growth.
In this journal , you will discover your heart desires and then, to realise them, you set aligned, practical goals.
Journaling: If you haven’t started, get one today, write down your intentions and what you need to let go of and explore whatever needs to come up. Then, take action on your top priority.
Meditation: Find a quiet space and engage in meditation to centre yourself. Visualise the Virgo energy surrounding you, grounding you and providing clarity. I love Insight Timer for the vast range of guided meditations.
Get Into Nature: Spend time in nature, preferably in a tranquil setting. Connect with the Earth's energy, allowing it to support and guide you on your journey. I’m lucky I live in a remote place, usually peaceful until the jets come over for flying practice or the hunters are out. But mostly, it’s 4 walks a day with the furry ones.
Gratitude Practice: While out in nature, take a moment to ground and feel the Earth beneath you. Look around and feel gratitude for the present moment. Acknowledge the beauty and wisdom in your surroundings, no matter how simple they may be. Write about this experience in your journal.
Rituals: Create a personal ritual or ceremony honouring yourself. I like to light a candle, place some crystals around it, and write my letter to let go or set intentions for my heart's desires. Afterwards, I will burn the letter saying thanks for all my lessons and gifts. Or you could try the inner sanctuary exercise.
