Creating a lasting impression during a recruiter screen is no easy task, especially when you have limited time to make an impact. Here are our tips for increasing your chances of leaving a memorable mark on the recruiter during the crucial "first five" and "last five" minutes of the conversation

THE FIRST FIVE

  • Establish rapport right from the start
  • Come prepared with an engaging opener -?the weather, weekend plans, or any other casual topic that demonstrates your genuine interest.
  • Be yourself and let your unique personality shine through.
  • Embrace your individuality and make a memorable impression with your genuine self.
  • Good recruiters will take any conversational lead you provide them with, as long as you plant the seed.

THE LAST FIVE

  • Take a few notes during the interview to help you remember topics that would make a good follow-up question.
  • Ask informed and thoughtful questions that create a narrative about the role, the company, or job-market related topics.
  • Show your knowledge and preparation by referencing specific information you found on the company's website, blog, or newsletter.
  • Consider asking about what the recruiter likes most about the company and areas they believe could be improved.
  • After the call, take the time to send a short thank-you message that includes a specific and personalized detail from the interview.

Make the most of these critical first and last moments by being authentic, curious, and approachable. By mastering these techniques, you can position yourself at the forefront of any recruiter's mind for future opportunities.
