Navigating uncertainty while leading your team can be daunting, primarily when decision-making rests heavily on your shoulders.?
The pressure mounts as the executive leadership team and your team eagerly await your guidance and next steps.?
You always know the way forward; it's part of your brand.
But suddenly, you're faced with myriad unknowns and their potential consequences.
You're in what I call the hallway.
A long, narrow passage with numerous closed doors, each representing a possible direction.
It can feel confining, amplifying the pressure to choose wisely.
Yet, what you do next is vital.?
Why does this suddenly feel like that Chutes and Ladders board game you played as a kid?
Your response can mean the difference between being rudderless, which can cause demotivation and anxiety among your team, and seizing the opportunity to strategize and emerge stronger.
Shifting marketplace conditions. Project completions. Onboarding new business. All may prompt these periods of uncertainty.
This hallway is a chance to recalibrate and plan intentionally. It's a strategic pause.
The questions you ask yourself play a big role in how you move forward.
Here's what to do
1) Instead of getting caught in a thought loop of asking yourself, "What should I do?" shift your approach and ask yourself, "How do I?"

"What should I do?" versus "how do I..?" One question has a wobble, while the other is in command. Can you feel the difference?
This retake empowers your mind to explore possibilities and seek solutions.
2) Get ready and prepared.
Ready is a mindset—an attitude of readiness to act swiftly when necessary. Preparation involves doing the groundwork, making plans, and honing your skills. Take advantage of the pause to reflect on your objectives and your approach to uncertainty in the future.
While in 'the hallway', Ask yourself,
What do you hope to achieve at the end of this pause??
How do I want to approach the unknown in the future??
How will you network and connect internally and externally??
How will you up-skill the team, improve efficiency, and heighten creativity?
How will you improve a relationship, amplify your impact, or develop a more efficient process?
By embracing this approach, leaders often discover innovative solutions and foster team growth and development.
Ultimately, as you navigate uncertainty, strive to emerge inspired not just exhausted.?You learn to manage your energy, mindset, and time effectively.
The hallway--it's the gift you never knew you wanted.
