The first two phases of our Smart Training Solutions Framework ― Discovery and Needs Analysis ― require a paradigm shift for most companies. Usually, a lot of change happens, and it can feel uncomfortable.?
There is, however, a light at the end of the tunnel. The uncomfortable part of change is only temporary and ultimately leads to great rewards. Organizations begin to experience these rewards as they maneuver through the enhancement phase.
Change remains part of the process during the Enhancement phase, but professionals feel more empowered as they become engaged and involved in the process. At this stage, they are not just receiving information about what needs to be done, they are actively engaging.?
But, it doesn’t have to be all at once. Just as a person slowly dips their toe in the water to test the temperature, organizations can ease into this phase of Smart Training.
As you navigate through the empowerment phase, NIMS focuses on three major building blocks to achieve your end goal: Standards, Performance Measures, and Data Collection.
Standards
The first step of the Enhancement phase calls for scoping out job roles within the organization by assessing how job duties are assigned to your workforce. All job roles are defined during this phase. These job roles establish your duty-based standards.
Standards are the building blocks for training and evaluation. During this phase, you learn how to organize the job roles in a meaningful way, utilizing duty-based standards. Once the standards are established, they will drive employee development and the creation of all training materials.
But there is no need to be overwhelmed because we simplify the process by starting with just one job role. In our work with organizations, we believe in doing the work for you while you watch and then empowering you to do it yourselves with our guidance. That is why we start with just one job role. During this learning phase, we want to dissect and pick apart the process until there is a full understanding of how to build job roles in the proper way.

Once this is defined, you have a template to follow in building out the remaining job roles for your organization. This is where the empowerment piece comes in. There is power in taking the bull by the horns and doing the work yourself after learning, especially when you see the benefits the organization will receive after the implementation of this process.
Performance Measures
Performance measures are the assessments used to determine if an individual or team can perform their job roles during the natural flow of work. Assessments are conducted during the natural flow of work to reflect true performance measures.
Data Collection
Data collection is a method for contextualizing your assessments into queryable data for visual representation of performance. Organizations can use the data they collect to visualize performance and make the necessary adjustments needed to achieve their training goal.
Conclusion
NIMS is committed to working with your organization to integrate Smart Training Solutions. In doing so, you will feel empowered and become more efficient as you onboard new team members and experience growth. Through building the proper foundation of strong standards, establishing realistic and achievable performance measures and representing those findings through meaningful data, your team will be empowered to grow and excel.
In our next blog, we will continue by identifying other methods for knowledge transfer (training) in the natural flow of work. To learn more about NIMS, please visit our website.
