Women in Carbon

Last week, we had the privilege of hosting the Women in Carbon event at our Rotterdam office, featuring insights from Zoe Abulzahab, ESG Policy Consultant at DLL, and Janneke van Raak, Co-founder and Managing Director of Goodberries.

Janneke's transition from corporate leader to sustainability entrepreneur is truly inspiring. With over 20 years of expertise in sustainable transformations and financial restructuring, she has been a trailblazer in making sustainability actionable. From founding Rabo SmartBuilds to co-founding Goodberries , Janneke has consistently transformed complex sustainability challenges into meaningful impact.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the other remarkable Women in Carbon who participated: Laura Menezes , Zoe Abulzahab , Claudia Yamile Espinal Peláez , Ana Garcia-Moran , Zuzana Vrbova , Dr. Kirti Ramesh , and Chiara Feldberger , with some wonderful additional guests.

Understanding EcoVadis medals

Conducting thorough and regular assessments of your company’s approach to sustainability management has become increasingly necessary for modern businesses.

Nexio Projects attends the EcoVadis World Tour: Paris and Stockholm

Nexio Projects is on the move as global strategic partner of EcoVadis during the EcoVadis World Tour.

At the first two locations we’ve visited, we hosted a roundtable on Scope 3 emissions and learnt that:

  • Large and extra large companies have trouble working with their suppliers to get a more accurate Scope 3 accounting
  • Companies face a general fear of getting the “wrong” data from suppliers
  • Companies struggle in using EcoVadis as a tool to engage with suppliers
  • There is a need to prioritise collaboration with more mature suppliers to get more activity-based data

Did you know?

Talking about supply chains and sustainable procurement, the Gartner/SPP research conducted on 104 companies from the Sustainability Procurement Pledge community finds that:

  • Top 2 metrics used to track progress of sustainable procurement programs are supplier sustainability scores from third-party assessments (63%), such as EcoVadis, and environmental / social impact such as emissions reduction (51%);
  • 71% expect upcoming regulatory changes will have an impact on their procurement strategy. However, only 48% feel confident in their ability to navigate sustainability regulatory pressures;
  • 64% agree that supplier sustainability performance has an impact on how they assess supplier competitiveness;
  • Only 10% are making significant investments in supplier capability-building. 57% have limited or no focus in helping suppliers;
  • 56% increased the budget or resources allocated to their sustainable procurement programme. Top areas where incremental budget is being spent are employee training, additional headcount and digital tools;
  • 12% are addressing Scope 3 to meet minimum regulatory requirements. For 87%, the primary reason they are pursuing a Scope 3 strategy is to achieve market differentiation.
