Tasked with overcoming compliance hurdles and crafting custom power supply designs, SNTech found a steadfast partner in Sunpower Electronics. Together, we navigated the turbulent waters of technical obstacles, culminating in the successful production of Marine Approved PSUs.

THE COMPANY

CatchCam Technologies (SNTech) designs and makes products for 'precision fishing' - a responsible means of commercial fishing that prioritises bycatch reduction, reduction of fuel consumption and operational efficiency. Their specialised products enable fishermen to do this via bycatch reduction lights, subsea cameras and advanced sensor systems.


THE CHALLENGE

Developing electronic products in the commercial fishing environment presents huge challenges in terms of safety – incorrect designs can interfere with ship-borne radio and navigational equipment, creating a real danger to human life and safety at sea. SNTech takes extreme care to design its equipment to the latest published safety standards. To meet these standards, the SNTech engineering team was challenged to find a power supply unit (PSU) that reduces conducted emissions, whilst meeting other design requirements - a PSU that was not readily available off the shelf.

THE SOLUTION

SNTech worked with our colleague, Cath Broadhurst , to specify and customise a PSU that met their design requirements whilst satisfying specific safety criteria - a journey that involved a rapid process of designing new input filters, EMI/EMC testing (both in Taiwan and the UK) and iterating multiple times until we converged upon a solution.


THE RESULT

After a long collaborative process, CatchCam Technologies commissioned their production run of bespoke PSUs from Sunpower Electronics.
