Boost your network

It is important to have certain rail guards to stay on track , says 孙永亮 , chief marketing officer at Alola.

He shares his personal tips for staying on track during a job search:

  • Treat your job search like a project: Document, track, and follow up on every application. A spreadsheet with key information about each role can be very handy.
  • Create a routine: Stay motivated and disciplined by balancing job applications with exercise, upskilling, socialising, and family time. You need to have a life beyond job hunting.
  • Network: Sometimes, it’s who you know that helps you get a job. Attend events and meet people. Referrals can significantly increase your chances of landing a job.
  • Upgrade your skills: Take courses and pick up new skills while you have the time. This can also help you in interviews.
  • Research companies: Always do thorough research before an interview. Nearly 50% of candidates fail interviews due to a lack of company knowledge.
  • Practice interviews: Practice answering tough questions in front of a mirror or with friends and family. Remember, luck is when preparation meets opportunity.

Practice self-care

Waiting for job interview results can be nerve-wracking, regardless of your path, says 陳文揮 .?

To stay motivated during this period, he suggests a few strategies :

  • Keep learning: Use this time to upskill
  • Reflect: Use this period for self-assessment
  • Stay active: Volunteer or take on short-term projects
  • Practice self-care: Maintain a healthy work-life balance

“There's no one-size-fits-all approach. What matters most is continuously growing, learning, and adapting,” he adds.

Follow the “ACE” strategy

“Your worth isn't defined by a single interview outcome. If you want to thrive during this waiting period, you cannot let anxiety take control,” says Charles Juay , group financial services director at Prudential Assurance Company.

He recommends his “ACE” strategy for staying motivated:

A: Acknowledge your feelings, but don't let them consume you.

C: Continue your job search and personal development.

E: Engage in activities that boost your confidence.

Waiting for results can be paralysing. Dwelling on it wouldn't change the outcome, he adds.?

Divert your mind?

To get your mind off the interview results , career coach Yoke Leng Leong suggests some tips:

  • Enjoy a meal with friends: Stop talking about the interview, how well you did, or any minor flaws in your answers. Remember, the interview is also for you to see if you like the job and the people.
  • Attend events: Participate in various events, from cozy get-togethers to big alumni gatherings.?
  • Stay active: Don't sit and mope about what could have been, even if it’s been 5 days since the interview. Be seen and heard. Who knows, someone might come to you with a better job where you are the only candidate because you are the best fit for it.
